15 May 2008. The EU funded Project “Support to the Development of Business Capacity of Ukrainian SMEs – International Dimension” is implemented by a WYG International (UK) led consortium in Kyiv, Kharkiv and Lviv oblasts.

The Project will contribute to the development of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) competitiveness through institutional capacity building and policy advice to the main SME policy institutions, technical assistance in export and investment promotion and attracting foreign investments and through the increase of awareness of business internationalization in the country.

About 20 SMEs from each of the 3 oblasts in the following sectors can apply for support from the project:

• Information technology from Kyiv oblast;
• Machine building / equipment manufacture from Kharkiv oblast;
• Woodworking / furniture from Lviv oblast;

The selected SMEs will receive consultancy and training to improve management skills, to enhance business performance and to improve their ability to compete on the EU market through compliance with international business practices. In particular, the project will enhance capabilities among Ukrainian SMEs to attract investment and to promote their export activities.

The Project team has designed a methodology for selection of SMEs in cooperation with the main Project beneficiary - the State Committee of Ukraine for Regulatory Policy and Entrepreneurship. The SME candidates will be selected based on the following criteria:

• Established in selected oblasts / regions;
• Membership in above mentioned priority sector;
• Company size (SME);
• Export potential;
• Interest in developing business partnerships with partners in the EU
• Commitment of the management to actively participate in the Project.
