The International Energy Investment Forum organized by the Ministry of Fuel and Energy of Ukraine and the European Business Association was held at Premier Palace Hotel in Kyiv. The Forum has become the biggest event ever held in Ukraine for the dialogue of the Ukrainian authorities and investors in energy sector.
The Forum gathered senior governmental officials: Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Andriy Klyuev, Minister of Fuel and Energy of Ukraine Yury Boyko, Minister of Coal Industry of Ukraine Serhiy Tulub, Minister of Economy Anatoliy Kinakh, Head of the State Property Fund Valentyna Semeniuk, Head of the National Electricity Regulation Commission Serhiy Titenko, Head of the National Agency of Ukraine on the Issues of Efficient Use of Energy Sources Yevhen Sukhin and others.
Participation on business side included over 300 participants representing leading companies of energy sector, most of them not operating on the Ukrainian market and yet interested in entering the Ukrainian market; large investment and consulting companies.
The Forum included a plenary session focused on currenst status in Ukraine’s energy sector and its role in the global energy market. The participants had a chance to discuss common energy policy goals of Ukraine, the EU and Russia, energy safety and Ukraine’s position in the global context; new opportunities in fuel and energy sector, also in relation to increased demand for energy in Europe; legislative initiatives to ensure favourable conditions for stable development of investment projects in energy sector.
The EBA President Andrea Raffaseder who was moderating the plenary session emphasized that in order to start or continue doing business in Ukraone investors most of all need stability, transparent and understandable conditions.
The Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Andriy Klyuev noted that last year showed a record involvement of domestic investment (over 100 billion UAH) as well as 4.3 billion US Dollars of foreign investment. He also mentioned that Ukraine is interested in attracting considerable investment into energy sector and in ensuring that perspective energy transport routes pass through Ukraine.
Among the speakers at the plenary session also were: Kris Singh of Holtec International, Rein Herber of Shell Exploration, Philip G. Behrman of Marathon Oil Company and others.
Four interactive sessions in the afternoon included presentations if investment projects by leading state energy companies of Ukraine in areas of: development of oil and gas infrastructure, Ukrainian power sector infrastructure, power sector production facilities, opportunities for exploration and production of minerals in Ukraine. The speakers panel included top managers of JSC Ukrtransnafta, Ukrtransgas, Transneft, E.ON Ruhrgas AG, E.ON Ruhrgas, Ernst & Young LLC Russia, Cardinal, Ukrenergo, Krimenergo, PSE S.A., AES Ukraine, NJSC Naftogas, Ukrgasvydobuvannya, Chernomornaftogas, Turkish Petroleum Corporation, Marathon Oil Company, Shell Ukraine Exploration and Production, Energoatom, Energy Company of Ukraine, Zakhidenergo, Donbass Fuel and Energy Company, Ukrhydroenergo, Crimean Generating Systems, Holtec International.
