EuroDebates

EBA EuroDebates are undoubtedly one of the most powerful EBA tools aimed at strengthening constructive dialogue between the business community and representatives of legislative and executive authorities. These regular meetings serve as one of the main means for EBA members to enhance the vis-а-vis dialogue with the European Union officials.

EuroDebates begin at 5:00 p.m. or 5:30 p.m., which is more convenient for the business schedules of EBA members and invited guest speakers. In line with their concept, EuroDebates are held as ‘open events’ with the mass media. The participation of representatives of the mass media is subject to mandatory accreditation.

We are proud of the fact that top officials of the Ukrainian Government are open to direct communication with EBA members, and that the EBA EuroDebates became for many EBA members a very efficient method of streamlined communication with the government. Each EuroDebates session brings together over 80-250 participants including EBA members, authorities, external experts and media.

EBA EuroDebates NBU's initiative on regulation of electronic payments market: pro and contra

On November 16, 2011 the European Business Association held EuroDebates focused on the National Bank of Ukraine's intention to set a single state-owned network for domestic electronic transactions. The event was held in Hyatt Regency Kyiv.

The meeting panel gathered public and private sector stakeholders: representatives of the NBU, Verkhovna Rada, international e-payments companies - Visa and Master Card in Ukraineand leading banks - Raiffeisen Bank Aval and Ukrsotsbank.

The main subject of debate became the intention of the National Bank of Ukraine to set a state-owned e-payments processor which will provide routing, clearing and settlement services for domestic transactions, as stems from the Draft Law on amending the electronic payment systems which is now pending for public hearings. NBU’s plans are tailored to attract financial actives of the public to electronic payments system.

The panelists actively discussed a number of disputable issues: so-called social payment cards implementation, the risks of IPR violation in case of a single state processor for e-payments creation, the necessity to protect consumers and card holders, market balance and cardholders rights protection, the influence of the payment system remodeling on Ukraine-EU perspectives etc.
