22/07 16:00 HR Meeting with Mr Sokorchuk, the Chief State Labour Inspector of Ukraine in Zhytomyr oblast - EBA Zhytomyr Branch

 was held at the Zhytomyr Oblast Council. The participants discussed salary rise, salary indixation and implementation of labour legislation at companies. Mr Sokorchuk spoke about the main offences discovered by labour inspectors. 3000 organisations have been examined in the last 2 years and labour offences were discovered at each.

Usually major offences are illegal dismissal, salary arrears. According to the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine companies should pay all salary debts till August 1, 2008. At present the largest salary arrears are in agriculture. The average salary in the region is 1184 UAH, it is the 21st place among other regions.

The participants raised many questions about enforcement of labour legislation at their companies. The parties agreed to hold other thematic meetings.
