15/11/2006 VAT Refund Commission meeting
was held at Kharkiv Oblast State Administration. EBA Kharkiv Branch representative attended the meeting, at which information on VAT refund issues was shared. It was decided to create special working groups to prevent fictitious export. As Sergey Storozhenko, the Deputy Head of the Kharkiv Oblast State Administration said, the state experiences great losses refunding export VAT for the goods that in fact have never crossed the border.

09/11/2006 General Membership Meeting with Professor Al Morrison on the topic "Changes Management"
was held at the Hotel Chichikov. The meeting was supported by company Nes-Star. Alec P. Morrison, the Vice President of the Management Consulting company of A.T. Kearney (USA, Chicago) and Terrence Galvin, former executive and international consultant on organisational change for the Procter&Gamble company shared their observations about Ukrainian business environment in their presentation “Managing Changes”. They pointed out the vital importance of such business skills as project management and critical thinking in the risky business environment. Since a change is inevitable, all businesses should turn it into an opportunity. In order to do so a business leader should master the art of change management. International speakers described cornerstones and steps for successful change management and some pitfalls in this process. |

was held in Kharkiv. Sponsor - company Brain Source International. The main issue discussed was competences as a basis for HR forming. Olga Shkut’, the Personnel Director, HR consultant of “Brain Source International ” made a presentation on how a competence model allows to systematise work with personnel and to bring selection, education and staff reserves formation to common standards. 27/09/2006 Meeting of the Working group on Business & Education Cooperation
was held at the Kharkiv Politechnik Institute. Cooperation forms between business and education institutions were discussed. The participants of the meeting: representatives of the EBA member companies, the Kharkiv Politechnik Institute, the Department for Family, Youth and Sports, as well as the best students of various institutions of higher education discussed and defined the main differences between knowledge students aquire and requirements employers put (according to results of the questionnaire filled in by the EBA companies, students and also a national poll conducted by CEUME consortium in 2003-2005). All participants expressed their opinions as to how solve corresponding problems and how to cooperate for their solving. |
23/09/2006 Big Slobozhansky Fair
was supported by the EBA Kharkiv Branch within the framework of cooperation with the Kharkiv Oblast Administration. The Fiar is a bright event of the International economic and cultural life of the Oblast. The guests of the Fiar had an opportunity to learn economic and scientific potential of th eregion, develop business networking and participate in the Economic Forum. At the latter, EBA member company NAI Pickard made a presentation of its investment projects in Ukraine. |

23/06/2006 Seminar “Corporate social responsibility: employment of orphans”
was held at the Conference Hall of the French Boulevard Entertainment Center. The seminar was organized by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine (OSCE PCU) in co-operation with the Kharkiv Branch of the EBA. The event was organized as part of OSCE’s project Empowerment for Ukrainian Orphans.The aim of the seminar was to inform the members of business community on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) aspects related to the development of local communities and ethical treatment of personnel, with particular focus on promotion of employment opportunities for young people from vulnerable backgrounds. The participants of the seminar learned how to distinguish between such notions as social responsibility, charity, sponsorship, etc., and to formulate their vision for such activity. They were also informed about the benefits of socially-responsible behavior, and got practical skills for formulating and implementing their companies’ programmes aimed at supporting employment of young people from underprivileged categories. After the seminar all participants were invited to watch the football match Ukraine – Tunis. |
